FT: Rangers 1 Celtic 0 - Ibrox erupts. Walter Smith records his fourth Old Firm victory in a row thanks to Kevin Thomson's superb 43rd minute strike. Another sensational performance from the Gers' stars who move six points clear in the SPL with a game in-hand.

91 min - Boruc joins the attack in a desperate attempt to equalise from a free-kick. Nothing comes of the attack.

90 min - Novo plays a delightful pass through to Adam but his shot is palmed away by Boruc. Great chance for Gers.

89 min - Late corner for Celtic. Barry Robson takes but Davie Weir clears with a powerful header.

86 min - Time running out for Celts with Rangers trying to hold on to their slender advantage.

56 min - Naylor produces a rash challenge on Ferguson. The pair square up but play is resumed with no cards being shown.

55 min - Rangers the stronger side at this stage and now putting sustained pressure on Boruc's goal.

50 min - Davis plays ball into Ferguson and his shot from 18-yards is deflected for a corner. Danger is eventually cleared by Samaras.

48 min - McCulloch fouls Brown inside Rangers' half. Nakamura delivers and Hesselink's header is straight at McGregor.

45 min - Rangers get the second-half started.

43 min - GOAL! Rangers 1 Celtic 0 - Darcheville flicks the ball on to the on-rushing Kevin Thomson who flicks the ball past Boruc with the outside of his right foot. Great goal for Gers.

41 min - Hartley puts ball out for a corner. Cuellar header is cleared off the line. Ball is then fed into Ferguson by Davis but the skipper's low shot across goal is well saved by Boruc.

40 min - Good spell of possession from Rangers with five minutes of half remaining.

34 min - Caldwell clears a Ferguson throw-in for a corner. Davis crosses but Boruc picks the ball from the air. Good handling from Celtic keeper under severe pressure.

32 min - McGeady cross is flicked on by Samaras. Ball falls to Brown who rockets a shot into side netting from a tight angle.

31 min - Dailly booked for late challenge on Brown. Ref has been too quick to issue cards at this stage of the game.

29 min - Thomson wins corner but again the delivery is poor to the frustration of the Ibrox faithful.

24 min - Kevin Thomson booked for dissent while waiting to take free-kick. Midfielder looks bewildered at decision. Ball is eventually cleared.

24 min - McManus is booked for reckless challenge on Darcheville on the right-wing.

21 min - Great chance for Celtic. Samaras playes ball through to Scott Brown but his tame effort, while under pressure from Whittaker, is saved by McGregor. Hesselink receives first booking of the game for arguing with linesman's decision to award goal-kick and not corner.

17 min - Ball breaks kindly to Samaras but his low shot from 20 yards is easily gathered by McGregor.

11 min - Broadfoot crosses deep into 18-yard box. McCulloch outjumps Caldwell but fails to connect with the ball. Good spell for Rangers.

Le titre de Premier League écossaise devrait en savoir un peu plus sur sa destination samedi lorsque le Rangers FC accueille le Celtic FC pour le deuxième derby du Old Firm cette saison.

Série de victoires
Les hommes de Walter Smith comptent trois points d'avance et un match en moins sur le Celtic. Une victoire à Ibrox permettrait aux quarts de finalistes de la Coupe UEFA d'être tout près de décrocher le titre de champion d'Ecosse pour la première fois en trois ans. Depuis son retour à Ibrox pour un deuxième passage, Smith a remporté les trois derniers derbies du Old Firm, notamment un succès 3-0 en octobre dernier. Son homologue du club catholique Gordon Strachan sait que ses troupes ne peuvent pas se permettre de perdre une telle rencontre si elles veulent conserver leur titre.

Celtic et son devoir
"Je ne voudrais pas perdre le match", affirmait Strachan sur uefa.com. "Si nous perdions, cela serait extrêmement difficile de remporter le titre donc nous allons essayer de gagner. Aucune de mes équipes ne s'est jamais contenté d'un nul. Nous sommes un peu comme Manchester United [FC]. Nous avons l'obligation envers nos supporteurs d'attaquer et de jouer du beau football. C'est ce que nous allons essayer de faire".

Quatre trophées sinon rien
Les locaux pourront de nouveau compter sur Barry Ferguson, Lee McCulloch, Christian Dailly et le gardien Allan McGregor, qui ont raté le match amical de l'Ecosse contre la Croatie mercredi à cause de blessures. Victorieux lors des 12 dernières journées (leur meilleure série depuis 1972/73 où ils avaient remporté 16 victoires de suite sous l'égide de Jock Wallace) et battus une seule fois cette saison, les Rangers peuvent encore réaliser le triplé à domicile (championnat et les deux coupes) et accrocher la Coupe UEFA.

"Nous ne sommes pas favoris"
Malgré leur réussite sur tous les fronts, le manager des Rangers, Smith, essaie de mettre la pression sur ses rivaux. "Le Celtic est l'équipe de prestige qui a remporté le titre ces deux dernières saisons", explique-t-il. "Nous ne sommes pas favoris. Ils ont plus conscience de notre talent cette saison que les deux dernières mais le Celtic est fier et déterminé à se battre jusqu'au bout. Je sais que nous devrons montrer la même détermination, nos forces et notre envie".

Let Battle Commence!

THIS weekend's Old Firm showdown at Ibrox has all the ingredients to be a classic with Walter Smith aiming to make it four wins out of four against Gordon Strachan's men.

Rangers, of course, are on a tremendous 12-game unbeaten run in the SPL but the Celts have shown their resilience by staying within three points of their greatest rivals at the top of the table.

A win for the Light Blues on Saturday afternoon will increase that gap to six points with a game in-hand and in my opinion that could go along way to deciding the Championship, even if there are still two trips to Parkhead still to come.

Passion, commitment and controversy, we can expect it all and here is the key battles I expect will take place in the greatest derby in the world:

Aiden McGeady v Kirk Broadfoot

I have been hugely impressed by Kirk at right-back following Alan Hutton's move to Spurs.

He has the ability to get forward and his delivery into the box has been good.

This weekend, however, his defensive attributes will be tested to the full when he comes up against Aiden McGeady.

The winger has been excellent this season and is the architect for a lot of Celtic's goals.

It will be up to Kirk to stop his supply for McDonald, Hesselink or Samaras but the experience he has gained in Europe this season should stand him in good stead on his Old Firm debut.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink v Carlos Cuellar

Cuellar has been different class for Rangers and in my opinion he is the best defender in the SPL right now.

The fact that this will be his 50th match for Gers this season says it all.

The big Spaniard came up against Scott McDonald when the teams last met in October as Strachan went for a 4-5-1 formation but Hesselink provides an aerial threat for Celtic.

The Dutchman may not be as prolific as McDonald in front of goal but is strong at linking up play and winning flick-ons. This will be an interesting tussle but I fancy Cuellar to come out on top.

Scott Brown v Barry Ferguson

This will be a battle of youth v experience and it could be the area will the match is won or lost.

I have always said that Barry is the best midfielder in Scotland and when he is on top form he can dictate matches.

I think Walter is certain to start with just one striker up top, most probably Darcheville, so it is essential that the skipper pushes up and provides support to the Rocket.

It has been a gruelling campaign for Baz recently and he has shown signs of tiredness recently although his ankle will not have helped matters. Fatigue, however, never comes into play when the Old Firm games come about and he will be right up for this one.

As for Brown, we all know what he is capable of but he has yet to show the Celtic fans why he is their record signing.

He was brought as a big game player and will be desperate to stamp his authority on Saturday's game. This will be a titanic clash between two quality players.

With Daniel Cousin out I fully expect Darcheville to get the nod and his strength and pace will be vital to Rangers.

Playing one in attack is never easy for a striker but if the ball gets put into the channels or over the Celtic defenders heads JC can terrorise opponents.

KOKI Mizuno is already settling into life at Celtic Park. Having played in the recent 4-1 victory for the reserves over Rangers, the young Japanese player was also in the Hoops side for their game against Gretna yesterday (Monday).

And though he was forced off during the 5-0 victory with an ankle injury, Mizuno is delighted to have started playing for his new club after a number of fixture postponements.

It helps, of course, having one of his fellow countrymen alongside him at the club. But as Koki Mizuno explains in this week’s Celtic View, it’s still a somewhat surreal experience when that person is one of your footballing heroes, Shunsuke Nakamura.

“Shunsuke is a player I’ve always admired,” Mizuno said. “I have so much respect for him and up until the last few months he was someone I would watch on TV.

“I’ve always followed his career. I can remember him playing for Yokohama F Marinos when he was young. He would always wear the number 10 shirt and was amazing at free-kicks.

"In some ways, Shunsuke’s body shape is similar to mine and I tried to learn from him. When he then moved to Italy and Scotland, I continued to follow his career.

“Now, I’m playing at the same club and I’m getting to know him a bit better. Shunsuke is a big presence for me in Glasgow and he is helping me every day – on and off the park.”
