Après la disparition d'Antonio Puerta en début de saison (défenseur du FC Sevilla) c'est au tour de Philip O'Donnell de rejoindre la triste liste des joueurs de football décédés à la suite d'un malaise cardiaque sur un terrain à 35 ans seulement, l'Ecossais ne fêtera donc pas le nouvel an 2008. Malgré la large victoire 5-3 sur Dundee United à Fir Park consolidant la 3e place du club des banlieusards de Glasgow, les jaunes & violets de Motherwell doivent passer une triste soirée après le décès de leur capitaine survenue  quelques minutes après la fin du match lors de son transfert à l'hopital de Glasgow. Ayon donc un pensée pour sa famille & ses quatres enfants. A noter qu'il évoluait au côté de son neveu de 22 ans David Clarkson double buteur lors de cette large victoire sur United. Au paravant O'Donnell avait portait les couleurs de Sheffield Wednesday de 1999 à 2003 ne faisant que 20 apparitions en 4 ans avant de retourner dans son club formateur de Motherwell où il avait déjà évolué de 1990 à 1994 (15 buts en 112 matchs) avant de partir au Celtic club dans lequel il passa 5 saisons marquant 16 buts en 89 rencontres de championnat. Il compte également une sélection avec l'équipe nationnale écossaise en 1994 & a également remporté la coupe d'Ecosse en 1991 avec  Motherwell en battant...4-3 Dundee Utd & en 1995 avec le Celtic.

Signalons le 1er match de Bobo Baldé en équipe première depuis un an avec le Celtic ce qui coincide aussi avec le 1er match depuis  15 mois sans prendre de buts à l'extérieure, espérons pour Bobo que sa lui garantisse sa place pour le prochain match de championnat contre Gretna. Constatons aussi désormais que le trou est fait entre les 2 premiers & le reste des équipes classées de la 3e à la 8e place. Motherwell, Dundee Utd & Hibernian ayant toutes les 3 perdu & Aberdeen n'ayant pu faire que match nul à Gretna qui ne perd plus désormais depuis 3 matchs mais la route pour espérer se maintenir est encore longue pour ce club solidement encré à la 12e place à 9 points de St Mirren qui s'est offert le scalp des Hearts à Edinburgh qui n'en finissent plus de surprendre & de décevoir. Les grenats d'Edinburgh sont désormais 10e bien loin de leur rêve de grandeurs qui a déjà concédé 5 défaites à domicile ce qui est beaucoup pour un club qui a de grandes ambitions. Sa sera donc très dur pour Gretna car les équipes de devant ont le malheur de prendre des points aussi comme Kilmarnock qui s'est offert une victoire sur Hibernian après une série de résultats moyens ou médiocres.

Coelho s'exprime sur un éventuel transfert au Celtic, il a l'air très enthousiaste...une bonne chose. 

Brazilian defender Coelho has revealed he is 'very excited' by the prospect of playing for Celtic.

Coelho is due to link up with the Scottish champions in January from Corinthians and has vowed to make a bigger impact at Parkhead than compatriot Rafael Scheidt.

The defender cost Celtic £5million, but made just three appearances for the club in the spring of 2000.

But Coelho is looking forward to the chance of playing under Gordon Strachan and admits it is a 'privilege' to be moving to the Old Firm giants.

"I am confident I will be successful," Coelho told the Scottish Sun.

"I know Rafael Scheidt played for Celtic. Unfortunately he didn't settle and returned to Brazil.

"If you have problems settling it brings problems in your football, but I believe I can settle better and quicker in Scotland.

"I am confident I will get used to everything quickly.

"I've seen Celtic a few times on television, but I don't know a great deal about the SPL.

"But myself and my family are very excited about our new adventure in Scotland.

"It is an enormous privilege that a club the size of Celtic want to sign me.

"I think this is an incredible honour and I couldn't believe it when I was told."
